Had a good and very interesting day today. I made a last minute decision to visit the Baker Academy at somewhere I hadn't sailed before, so headed for Ferring (I think). As I drove down, the sun was out and I thought I was very clever taking the day off. Then as soon as I shook Ant's hand the rain came in. But it was windy, so we rigged in a hurry. It was about midday and I went for a 5m and floaty board as I thought that would be a good looping combo. All the while, the wind was picking up. Went out for a couple of runs and was totally maxed, so came in, left Ant to be my rigging bitch and flatten the sail off, while I switched to my wave board. Went out and the wind had picked up again, so another couple of wild runs and then in for the 4.5. And the wind kept coming - it was quite hairy for a while with just Ant, me and the geriatric looper getting battered in the storm. That must have been the 50mph bit. Came in to rig the 4m and for a very short while after being overpowered on that too, it was perfect - and then the wind dropped.
Ant had given up on trying to teach me anything (thank god) - not because I've got nothing more to learn, but trying to do anything organised in 50mph winds isn't particularly sensible.
So we hung around for half an hour or so to see if it would pick up again and just as Ant was going, I rigged my 5.7 and got an hour of perfectly powered low tide ramps, so I was able to try a good few loops and play in the small waves with four others. So a great day and one where I used every single bit of kit I brought with me - 4 sails and 2 boards.
Made it to the school parents evening by a matter of minutes, so not even in the doghouse. One to be repeated, although my feet could do without the low tide rocks.
